About
Andrew Hawkins is an American from Santa Barbara, California, currently living in Fukuchiyama, Japan.
I make my living as an English instructor. I’m thinking of eventually going to graduate school for urban or transportation planning, as I’m extremely interested in passenger rail. I’m also a student of the Japanese language, and I’m trying to take advantage of my time living here and become as fluent as I can.
In addition to the aforementioned, I really enjoy listening to music, particularly gothic rock and post-punk from the 1980′s, but also new wave, electro, ambient, and other types of rock. I enjoy reading novels by the likes of Neil Gaiman, Neal Stephenson, William Gibson, and William S. Burroughs. I also love the internet, computers, video games, and technology. I am also a user and advocate of free and open source software.
I am an atheist and a secular humanist. I’m generally accepting of religion as long as it doesn’t hinder one’s ability to make rational decisions. I like to describe my politics as libertarian socialist, and I also value internationalism and environmentalism.
