Facebook Connect

03 Mar

I just added Facebook Connect to this blog. Anyone using Facebook is now able to log in and leave comments now.

In the sidebar on the right, under “Meta,” click “Log in.” Then click on the blue “f Connect” button, and you’ll be able to connect your Facebook account with this site.

I think I have a few bugs to work out, but happy commenting!

EDIT: So we’re back to the old Arclite theme because Arjuna X was putting HTML garbage in Facebook users’ names. I would like to put a “Connect to Facebook” button somewhere in the comment area, but I can’t get it to place correctly. This little Facebook status box in the upper-right corner of the page is also annoying me, and I wish I could get rid of it. Unfortunately, the documentation for the Facebook Connect plugin is as clear as mud. :-(

Let me know if you figure out an elegant way to incorporate the Facebook Connect button into the comments sections. After the blank user info fields but before the comment field (for users who are not logged in) would be perfect. Also, if you work out the username display issue be sure to let me know how you did it.

Yeah, I wanted to put it right underneath the words “Leave a Comment,” but it either disappears next to that or crowds in next to the user info fields.

When I briefly switched themes, I noticed that the HTML garbage in the commentors’ name went away, so that’s a problem with the theme and not the plugin.

I like the new theme. A nice combination of fun and sophisticated…yes, sophisticated.

Just a heads up: your fbconnect button in your meta widget is rendering a bit funny on my browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox). The button is rendering a bit high, ever so slightly overlapping the bottom of the password field. Everything works, just looks a bit funny.

Yeah, I don’t really like how everything’s touching the left edge either. But it’ll do for now.

Now another question is why did your comment show up in my Facebook feed?
